Why does a pillowcase turn yellow and how do you remove yellow stains?

Over time, a pillowcase may yellow slightly, whether it's made of cotton or silk. This is a natural phenomenon and can have several causes.

What causes yellowing?

Perspiration

Even if you don't notice it, your body perspires during sleep.

Sweat contains water, mineral salts, and natural oils.
When these oils penetrate the fabric and oxidize, they can cause yellow stains.

Saliva and Moisture

Moisture, saliva, or tears can also leave marks on fabric.

Cosmetic Products

Creams, serums, hair oils, or makeup can penetrate the fibers and contribute to Yellowing.

Sunlight and Oxidation

Prolonged exposure to sunlight or air can accelerate the natural oxidation of fabric, especially for light colors.

How to Prevent Yellowing?

– Wash pillowcases regularly
– Use a special silk detergent
– Alternate between several pillowcases to limit wear
– Avoid drying in the Direct sunlight
– Limit frequent dry cleaning
